A software company licenses and supports a client/server-based software system for managing employee relocations in Fortune 500 organizations. Increasingly their customers have asked for:
They turned to SD3 to develop a web-based browser interface for the software which could be customized for each customer, and hosted externally if desired.
SD3 worked with the client project sponsor to develop a project charter and detailed project plan, and then developed requirements documentation and continued with system architecture and design. A new N-Tier architecture was defined separating presentation, business rules and data access into their own tiers.
During design, the team used Visual Modeler to develop the component object model for the system using UML notation. The team continued with the development phase of the project using ASP, Visual Basic, XML, XSL, MTS and SQL Server. After extensive testing, the client accepted the web browser-based system and began planning installations at existing clients.
SD3 successfully added web enabled access to the relocation system. The project was completed on time and within the project budget. Plans are underway to offer the new system as an outsourced hosted service using an application service provider model.
The client is very satisfied with the result and feels their new web-based product offering makes them more competitive and provides them with an additional revenue stream.
