When a regional arm of a giant national cellular service provider hired SD3 to solve a complex technical need, the result was so successful that it earned company-wide recognition and was adopted nationwide.
The client needed to create a system which could monitor and analyze the performance of cellular towers in terms of every factor which could affect the customer’s experience, from peak usage at large public events (such as a sports championship) to regional outages due to weather. What’s more, it had to retrieve and correlate this information from equipment made by multiple manufacturers.
SD3 worked with the client to apply a diverse arsenal of technologies to solve their needs. The heart of the system is a web-based data warehouse, running HP equipment with Oracle 9.2, Spatial, Text and JVM options.
SD3 successfully dealt with several challenges. Storage and I/O bandwidth were at a premium given the decentralized nature of the project. Data load throughput would become problematic as the number of supported cell markets grew to national scale. System performance could degrade as data distribution shifts. Hand coding load and validation routines for thousands of parameters across the many different vendor solutions.
To address these challenges, SD3 designed and developed a partitioned storage approach, a multi-threaded file loading mechanism and a dynamic ETL engine that relies on metadata stored in the database.
At the same time that this system was under development at the regional level, the company was involved in a multi-million dollar search for a software solution to accomplish the same goals. SD3’s solution ended up being adopted nationwide, and winning a Corporate Award for Excellence.
Bringing together multiple relevant software platforms, SD3 created an app that streamlines workflow assessment in real-time. Team members in the field can communicate smoothly with home office, each one in sync with work orders, updates and more.

A hospital system that relies on communication of critical and highly private patient information needed a safe way to do so electronically. The forward-thinkers at SD3 developed an app enabling chiefs, residents and nurses to securely send and receive images and/or messages. This required creation of a custom camera application to keep images off the “camera roll” for security and yet still gave full control of image details.
