What SD3 did:

Our objectives were to review the client’s data and reporting implementation and recommend a new enterprise data warehouse (EDW) strategy, development process, architecture, tools, and organization. SD3 would then go forward to build and deploy into production a completely new EDW platform.

We met with business leaders to identify and prioritize a set of information areas that were most important and organized them into a list of strategic roadmap initiatives. Then we gathered anddocumented requirements and established an Agile data warehouse development methodology using Jiraas an Agile project management tool. SD3 designed a multi-tiered data warehouse architecture utilizing data vault and dimensional modeling techniques. We recommended and licensed ERwin as a metadata repository tool and designed datamodels for all of the database layers in the architecture.

SD3 designed and developed all of the logic to extract information from source systems and load into the data vault and dimensional data mart databases. Cognos reports and Tableau queries were developed and made available for direct user access.

The outcome:

Our client feels that their new enterprise data warehouse is a huge success. It provides them with self-service access to information that they never had before. Now they have the capability to perform advanced mathematical modeling including business forecasting and risk analysis. Having access to the summary and detail data is helping the management team drive operational process improvements. Thenew Agile development methodology is being used on the list of strategic roadmap initiatives and the business community is seeing measurable progress as they continue to gain access to more information areas across the organization.
